Sacrifice Centred Prayer/Worship

Timotiyos I 2:1-4
Orthodox Jewish Bible (OJB)

1.   I urge, therefore, of first importance, davening, techinnah (supplication), tefillah (prayer), bakkashot (petitions), and hodayah (thanksgiving) be made on behalf of kol Bnei Adam (all mankind),
2.  On behalf of malchei eretz (kings) and on behalf of all the ones in authority, that we may lead a life of chayyei menuchah (life of rest) in all chasidus (piety) and yirat Shomayim (reverence).
3.  This is good and acceptable before Hashem Moshieynu,
4.  Who wants kol Bnei Adam to have Yeshu’at Eloheynu (the Salvation of our G-d) and to come to da’as HaEmes (knowledge of the truth).

1st Prayer: Techinnah (Supplication/petitions/begging)


Old Covenant: A repentant soul pleading for forgiveness of his sins. He redeemed (purchased or paid ransom) his soul by offering the blood and the body of a lamb at the altar.  Lev. 7:11-16
New Covenant: Jesus has purchased us with his blood but we have to offer our bodies for his service (Latreia = Worship) Rom. 12:1,2. In a believer’s gathering, an unbeliever realizes that God is amongst them, falls down prostrate, repents and gets saved. Saving a lost sheep, a broken and a contrite heart, covers a multitude of sins. 1 Cor. 6:19,20; 14:24,25; James 5:20; Ps 51:17

2nd Prayer:Tefillah = To judge/examine

Old Covenant: The priest washed his hands at the Laver and looked at his face in the brass mirror, to examine his conscience and the works of his hands, before he took the sacrifice soaked fire from the Brass Altar to burn incense at the Golden Altar in the Holy Place. A fire without a sacrifice would be strange fire and not acceptable to God. Exo. 38:8; Lev. 10:1-2
New Covenant: Watch and pray that you may escape all that is to happen and stand before the Throne (Luke 21:36). Paul says to the Corinthian church, "Examine and prove yourselves whether you are in the faith" (2Cor. 13:5). We are to examine ourselves before taking the Lord’s Supper (1Cor. 11:28). Without obeying the commands of Jesus (The Great Commission), taking the Lord ’s Supper would be taking it unworthily. Matt. 28:18-20

                                                   3rd Prayer: Bakkashot = Intercession

Old Covenant: At the Golden Altar, the priest poured out a mixture of incense from many countries on the fire. He then raised his holy hands and prayed for the nations.
New Covenant:The incense and the offering of lost sheep is to be made in Gentile homes; and not in the temple any more (Malachi 1:11). “Jesus said, “My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations”, not just for a particular community (Mark 11:17). We are to go 2x2 and ask the Lord of the Harvest for nations and places, raise our holy hands and pray “everywhere” for laborers, where Christ has not been named. Ps. 2:8; Luke 10:1,2; Rom. 15:19,20. We are not just to sit at home or in the church or even in a prayer tower and pray but to go weeping (interceding) with the seed (gospel) and come back rejoicing with sheaves (harvest). Ps. 126:5,6; 1Timothy 2:8

4th Prayer: Hodayah = Thanksgiving

Old Covenant: When the smoke bellowed out from over the Mercy Seat in the Holy of Holies, everyone standing in the outer court, spread forth their hands and corporately offered prayer of Thanksgiving to the Lord for accepting their sacrifice and redeeming their souls.
New Covenant: Every time we bring a lost soul into the kingdom, the heavenly angels join us in rejoicing and thanksgiving and our names get written in the book of the Lamb and we shine like the stars. Luke 10:20; 15:7,10; Daniel 12:3

  Dear B, My first journey back in mid-sixties to Ireland was a memorable one. I went by train from London to Hollyhead which reached there about 2 AM. To my utter dismay all the Irish men started running to the waiting ferry. Being an Indian and running to get a seat in the train was quite normal thing for me. So I thought may be there are not enough seats so I also ran only to find  that most of the seats empty and I could comfortably stretch out. The Irish men had been to running desperately to get a seat by the bear bar.   I am glad you are studying the emergent church. By the way it is the original model.  The wide Bema or what you call pulpit in the Synagogue was used for spreading out the scrolls. STRUCTURING A GREAT COMMISSION TRAINING PROGRAM

  1. Objective:  Clearly define the objective of the training. Jesus defined it clearly when he said to his disciples, "Follow me and I will make you fishers of men". So the objective of our training is not to train theologians to become aquarium keepers (Pastors) but to equip followers of Christ into prolific fishers of men or disciplers who birth more disciple makers or sowers of the seed who reproduce more sowers of the seed or seekers of the lost sheep who find more seekers of the lost sheep. 2. Content:  Based on the above objective, the content must resonate with it. F ocus on the Great Commission as the core of the core and carefully choose topics that help fulfill it.  We must resist the temptation to add on interesting topics that are informative but do not have immediate bearing on the objective unless it is a completely new group in which case you might have to do some vision casting . Jesus' 5 Major paradigm shifts from OT to NT

1.   Buildings: Jesus shifted the holy temple from a stone building to human heart (1 Cor. 3:16). For 300 years the NT church functioned in the homes of the people without any specifically constructed sacred buildings and grew exponentially until Constantine built the first cathedral in Rome.   Our Response: Build more buildings. Brick an mortar has done more harm to church growth and multiplication than anything else. Every dollar spent on building sends someone to hell. Every 4 seconds someone dies in India without hearing the gospel and goes to hell.  Remember: God does not live in buildings made with human hands. (Acts 7:48,49) 2. Priesthood: The OT consisted of priesthood of hereditary Levites. Anyone could become a prophet but never a priest. Jesus changed all that so that in His church there is priesthood of all believers.
