PENTECOST: The day that changed the world forever

Today is the 2014 th Birthday of the church. Pentecost was a harvest festival. Jesus converted it into harvest of souls. Jews believe that that the Old Covenant was given to Moses around 3500 years ago in the wilderness on this day when they were appointed to be the kingdom priests to all the nations of the earth. Exodus19:5, 6. 40 days after the Passover Jesus commanded the 500 who came to witness his ascension to wait in Jerusalem until the power from on high has come. 1 Cor. 15:6 Only 120 men and women obeyed. The Holy Spirit came as tongues of fire on them. Acts 1:14, 15; 2:1-3 Peter gave a short exhortation and people from every nation under the heaven heard the gospel message in their own native tongues. Acts 2:5 They asked what shall we do? Peter commanded them to repent, be baptized and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit for the transformation of their own families and for the transformation of Gentiles. Acts 2:37-39 3000 families, (Jews only counted the men...

Greet The Church In Your House

Image
When it first appeared in 1999, Dr. Victor Choudhrie's  Greet the Church in Your House  ruffled more than a few feathers. Defenders of traditional church planting and mission models found the book's ideas iconoclastic. Dr. Choudhrie's book has now been revised and relaunched for the e-book generation. I first met Dr. Choudhrie in 2002, while serving as a missionary in India. Even before that, though, I seemed to hear his name from everyone who was seeing multiplying movements of new churches in India. All roads to movements seemed to pass through Dr. Choudhrie's influence. Victor and Bindu's passion for the unreached and deep insights into Scriptural models for the Christian life, made them natural gurus for generations of young missionaries and local church planters who wanted to see fidelity to New Testame nt patterns and the dynamism that accompanied it in their own ministries.  The Choudhries did  not disappoint. Despite whatever grumblings accompanied Dr....

LENT ( 5 th March 2014 ) During the 40 days of Lent period, in most of the churches, believers fast, pray, study the scriptures etc. Immediately after this there is the Day of the Great Sacrifice (Good Friday) followed by the Resurrection Day when Lord Jesus won victory over death and came back alive. This tradition was set because Lord Jesus fasted and meditated for forty days in the desert before starting his ministry on earth. The first thing he did was to demolish the Devil who came to tempt him. This period is a very important part of our life for self-introspection to find out if we are walking according to the will of the Father or not? His will is that none should perish and that all should come to the knowledge of truth. 2Peter 3:9; 1Timothy 2:4 Good news is that during this period tens of thousands of Christians invite fellow Christians into their homes for prayer, Bible study and table fellowship etc. but the sad news is that very few Christians invite people of ot...

WORK-PLACE MINISTER

A Church In The Work-Place 1.        Adam was the first work-place minster whom God appointed to work (Hebrew Abad also means worship) and to guard it. Since there were no other predators, Adam was to protect his work-place from the Devil. Sadly he failed and lost his job as well as his inheritance. Genesis 2:15 2.        Noah was a work-place minister who preached for 120 years while building his ship. 3.        Abraham had several encounters with God while grazing his sheep and built altars and made sacrifices on them to mark out Canaan, his inheritance. 4.        King David never forgot his priestly function, girded himself with priestly Ephod and danced before the Lord (Ark of the Covenant) all the way on the road from Perezuzzah to Jerusalem, a distance of seven miles while offering an ox and fatlings every six steps. 2Samuel 6:8-15 5.  ...
